چکیده

The present study aimed to estimate digestible protein (DP) requirements for maintenance and growth assess the efficiency of utilization in pacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus) juveniles. A complete randomized design consisted seven treatments, five replicates (tanks) per treatment was used. After a one-week acclimation period, 350 juveniles 27.48 ± 1.8 g (initial average body weight - BW) were equally distributed among 35 tanks (10 fish tank) 450 L. Fish fed with graded levels (64.5, 111.8, 164.6, 217.1, 264.4, 316.2 369.5 kg-1) three times day until apparent satiation 120 days. monomolecular model parameters including nitrogen requirement (NMR) (37.76 mg BW0.67 kg-1 d-1), daily deposition (ND) (194.8 intakes (based on metabolic 1638, 1902, 2241 kg-1BW0.67 d-1 75, 80 85% maximum theoretical retention (NRmaxT), respectively (529×10-6) estimated through relationship between intake (NI) ND. 80, NRmaxT as 187, 217, 256 by based feed 2% live BW

Biological indicators of stress in pacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus) after capture.

The effects of capture (chasing, netting and air exposure) on cortisol, glucose, chloride, sodium, potassium and calcium concentrations, osmolality, hematocrit, hemoglobin concentration, red blood cells count (RBC) and mean corpuscular volume (MCV) were investigated in pacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus). A total of 132 fish (49.7 +/- 11.7 g) were subjected to capture and 3 minutes air exposure and ...

Protein requirements and ageing: metabolic demand and efficiency of utilization.

The protein requirements of the elderly were investigated with [13C]leucine balance studies of metabolic demand, the efficiency of postprandial protein utilization (PPU) and the consequent apparent protein requirement. Ten elderly subjects aged 68-91 years (five men and five women) and ten young adult subjects aged 21-31 years (five men and five women) were infused with L-[1-13C]leucine for 9 h...

Hemolytic activity of alternative complement pathway as an indicator of innate immunity in pacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus)

The objective of this study was to evaluate the methodology to establish the hemolytic activity of alternative complement pathway as an indicator of the innate immunity in Brazilian fish pacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus), in addition to verifying the influence of β-glucan as an immunostimulant. Fish were fed with diets containing 0, 0.1 and 1% β-glucan, during seven days, and then inoculated with ...

Leukocytes respiratory burst and lysozyme level in pacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus Holmberg, 1887).

Innate immune responses are useful to determine the health status of fish and to evaluate the effect of immunomodulatory substances in fish farming. Leukocytes respiratory burst was measured in pacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus) using chemiluminescence assay and nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT) reduction assay. The nitroblue tetrazolium reduction seemed more adequate than chemiluminescence assay for leu...

Nictemeral Variations for Pacu Caranha, Piaractus mesopotamicus (Holmberg, 1887) Culture in Single - Phase

Studies related to nictemeral variation were executed in a fish growing pond, during all the seasons of the year, collecting data for dissolved oxygen; temperature; pH and electrical conductivity at the feeding channel on pond's surface, bottom and at streamlet bed. The results showed that Autumn was the season which had the lowest values of water temperature, the interval points, during Spring...
